Frontiers in Metagenomics
WELCOME!
Next-generation sequencing technologies now enable individual laboratories to tackle genome projects which, only a few years ago, would have beyond all but the largest of Sequencing Centers. We are all now familiar with the use of these new sequencing instruments for de novo genome sequencing, genome resequencing, transcriptome analysis, and whole genome methylation profiling and, likewise, we are all equally familiar with the difficulty in analyzing the enormous amounts of data that are produced by these instruments. However, most of us do not usually think about applications designed to analyze entire communities of organisms, many of which have never previously been identified, let alone sequenced, or the enormous complexities that are encountered in the analysis of such admixed community data sets. This is the charge of the new field of metagenomics.
Therefore, the objective of the Frontiers in Metagenomics Symposium is to expose you to a dazzling range of current applications which will be presented by a stellar group of accomplished scientists. The symposium will span the Kingdoms of Life and will address both the generation and analysis of metagenomic data.
Due to the generous sponsorship of the Mizzou Advantage Program and the Stadler Genetics Symposia, there will be no charge to attend. Please join us for the symposium in the beautiful Monsanto Auditorium at the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center on the MU campus in Columbia, Missouri. The program allows many opportunities for interaction during meals and coffee breaks as well as a spectacular conference dinner that will be held at Les Bourgeois Vineyards and Winery situated on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River in Rocheport, Missouri.
I hope that you will attend the symposium where I am sure that we will all learn a great deal. I really look forward to seeing you on May 7th and 8th, 2012!
